The Jubilee Time Capsule

Jubilee Time Capsule logoThe last few months have been mad busy. Late last year we formed a partnership with the Royal Commonwealth Society to create a social archive for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012. Since then we’ve been working to hard to build the capsule on the Capsool platform.

We’re ridiculously excited about this. Ridiculously excited.

The premise for the Jubilee Time Capsule is simple. The Queen will celebrate 60 years on the throne next June – that’s almost 22,000 days that have witnessed the stories of our lives. Huge changes have swept across the world and affected everyone’s lives. Families have witnessed births, deaths and marriages. Individuals have seen their lives change – sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse.

The story of the last 60 years is incredible and when you think about it it is remarkable that one person has been a constant throughout that. No other family of nations can say that, yet the Commonwealth has had Queen Elizabeth II as Head since 1952. Not since Queen Victoria have we had a Diamond Jubilee, so this is indeed a rare and special occasion.

The Jubilee Time Capsule is designed to capture the stories of the last 60 years from around the Commonwealth. Each day is represented on the timeline and it is easy to pick a day and add your story using images, video, audio and text. It might be your birthday, the day your parents were married, the day you emigrated, the day of the Indonesian tsunami, the day Nelson Mandela was freed or when Manchester United won the European Cup for the first time.

These are your stories, our stories and together they will become a valuable social archive of the Queen’s reign that people from across the world will look back on. It is a unique digital celebration of our lives.

In June next year, content from the Jubilee Time Capsule will be used in the Jubilee celebrations in the UK and across the Commonwealth. Your story could end up being told to millions of people…

So, yes, we are excited about being a key part of telling a great story. We’re also honoured to have been given the opportunity to celebrate a once in a lifetime event.

What’s your story” Which day will you pick? Jump over to the Jubilee Time Capsule and start telling it.
